Set in the serene countryside of Mallorca, Can Huilco is a perfect example of how rural architecture can be respectfully transformed to meet contemporary needs. This traditional stone finca, surrounded by almond trees and dry-stone walls, was in disrepair, but we saw the promise beneath the dust.
The scope of this villa renovation in Mallorca was extensive. The entire roof structure was rebuilt, the interior layout redesigned, and the facades were restored using traditional lime mortar and local sandstone. We maintained the soul of the original house, iits irregular volumes, thick walls, and intimate scale, while opening up the interiors to light and landscape.
A new outdoor living area was created, including a pool and terrace designed for long summer evenings. Indigenous vegetation was used in the landscaping to ensure the home felt deeply integrated into its natural surroundings.
Inside, we combined old and new: exposed wooden beams coexist with sleek contemporary fixtures, and a neutral palette emphasises texture over colour. Can Huilco is now a tranquil, grounded retreat, where the architecture tells a story of respect, revival, and refined living.

A new staircase core was installed, becoming a central spine that provided circulation and a sense of vertical continuity. We reinforced the structure, replaced the roof, and introduced large windows and light wells to bring natural light into every level.
