This story begins with a farewell, the farewell to the old Hostal Maiol, an ageing seaside building anchored in another era, yet blessed with a privileged location in the north of Mallorca. Its walls, steeped in tales of simple summers, family laughter and calm sunrises, echoed the charm of a slower, more intimate kind of tourism.
Where many saw only ruin and the past, EPIC saw potential. It wasn’t just about building a hotel, but about preserving a spirit. The challenge: to transform this forgotten corner into a five-star hotel that breathed the Mediterranean from every angle, without losing the essence that made the old Mayol so beloved.
And so, El Vicenç de la Mar was born. A tribute to the soul of that former hostal, now wrapped in design, comfort, and sophistication. A new refuge where luxury doesn’t erase memory, but frames it, like an old photograph rescued from time.
Demolition as a path to rebirth. It wasn’t just construction. It was resurrection. Over 5,400 square metres built from the ground up, with a clear mission: to honour the island’s soul without renouncing innovation.
From the outset, architecture played a narrative role. The façades were designed combining ETICS (External Thermal Insulation Composite Systems) with hand-placed stone walls, dry-laid without mortar joints, in respect of Mallorcan building tradition. The interiors, warm and contemporary, blend noble materials such as granite, porcelain, stucco, and technical vinyl, installed with an unconventional approach, almost no flooring or tiling follows the same pattern. Every texture, every finish was meant to speak. The carpets were custom-selected for spaces like the library, cinema, and corridors, creating distinctive, sensory environments.
Light was treated as another building material. At El Vicenç, lighting is also construction. Delta Light handled the technical lighting, while the decorative pieces bear the personal stamp of Magnus: ceiling lamps, wall sconces, and fixtures designed exclusively for corridors and rooms, with an aesthetic that balances emotion and functionality.
Materials do more than dress the building, they define it. The floors combine the nobility of natural granite, the resilience of porcelain, and the acoustic comfort of carpet in spaces like the cinema, library and hallways. In the gym, technical vinyl provides a functional surface without sacrificing style. Walls, finished in jointless stone, stucco or textured paint, offer a rich tactile and visual experience that shifts with the natural light.
The hotel’s geometric pattern, inspired by the opus roman pattern, serves as a guiding thread throughout the project, visible in flooring, decorative vinyls, wardrobes and lighting elements, creating a coherent, recognisable visual identity that is never overbearing.
The hotel offers 74 places distributed across smart rooms, equipped with home automation, geothermal climate control, underfloor heating, and Axor taps. The exterior carpentry, made of anodised aluminium, ensures long-lasting elegance, while the main staircase, with its continuous sheet-metal railing, gives the building a sculptural focal point.
During the summer months, local regulations require all construction work to cease. And yet, where machines had to stop, EPIC continued building — with time, care, and precision. Without disrupting life around it. A logistical challenge that remains unseen, but speaks volumes about our way of working.
El Vicenç is not just a new building. It is an experience designed for rest, pleasure, and contemplation. With four outdoor pools, three jacuzzis, a spa, gym, cinema, conference room, and two restaurants signed by renowned chef Santi Taura, every space in the hotel has been designed to make guests feel part of the surrounding landscape.
Today, from the reception clad in natural stone to the skylight above the spa, everything at El Vicenç de la Mar tells a story. A story that began with demolition, and now, thanks to the dedication of every person involved in the process, is living its best chapter yet — a place where architecture, technique, and emotion come together to create something truly unforgettable.
